Perhaps this a time of harvest for you, or even a time of aimless wandering in the desert where a trace of God is nowhere to be found. Perhaps now is the time where He is shaping your focus, so that you will be reminded, day after day, of His victorious pursuit. On the flip side, perhaps you are wrapped in boldness and thriving day by day on the strength that He provides. No matter where you are in life, I want to challenge you to take a step back, and rest.
I’ve been challenged these last two months to view rest in a completely different light. Contrary to my previous perspective, rest is a weapon that God provides to make the path of steadfastness fulfilling and fruitful. Life has a way of tiring our hearts, so why not let God untangle those knots while we wait patiently for the victory?
Before diving in head first, it may be best to set the foundation of what rest in our lives should look like. First and foremost, rest is a state of contentment that is intentionally pursued. It can also be identified as an action that is taken to allow God to restore, refresh, and refocus our hearts. He encourages us daily to take a step back, dwell on His victories, and truly enjoy His presence. Rest is not a suggestion, it is a command.
As worry and exhaustive tasks weigh on our hearts daily, where are we to go? Where are we to find the strength we need?
This, my friends, is the truth behind our purpose- that we may view God as our quiet retreat and abide in Him knowing that through this renewal process, He is so graciously and sacrificially fighting for us.
Satan continues to press on our minds that our lives must be chaotic in order to be productive. Hear me on this… because the Lord gave up everything to triumph over your giants, He commands you engage in trustful rest as you quiet your hearts in solitude. You were created to feel “at home” with Him because your home is Him. In steadfast pursuit, you are one in Him, therefore, your heart will always long for deeper roots.
In place of our exhaustion and spiritual fatigue, allow your Father to fill your cup as you watch Him stand victorious in the triumph of your giants. Turn your restlessness to Him as your weary heart searches for strength. Rip the chains off our your wrists, because the veil is torn and you are no longer a slave to the chaos of this world. He hears you, He loves you, He pursues you, and He commands you to this state of contentment. Rest in the fact that you are enough, and will always be.
